Dr. Jennifer Janssen

I am a native of Lafayette, Louisiana, and earned both my B.S. and D.V.M. from Louisiana State University. I have more than 20 years of experience in small animal general practice and emergency medicine.

While practicing in Pittsburgh and Houston, my work with non-accidental trauma cases sparked my interest in veterinary forensic medicine. This led me to earn a Master’s degree in Veterinary Forensic Science from the University of Florida.

I went on to develop the first Veterinary Forensic Department in Houston, where I provided forensic services to the Greater Houston area for five years. At the request of state and local law enforcement agencies, I have performed forensic autopsies, forensic examinations, and osteology examinations, as well as provided expert witness testimony in animal cruelty cases.

I currently serve as a Board Member of the International Veterinary Forensic Science Association. I am also a member of the Texas Division of the International Association for Identification, the International Association of Property and Evidence, the American Veterinary Medical Association, and the Association of Prosecuting Attorneys.

After 25 years away, I am excited to return home to Lafayette and reconnect with family and friends. Outside of veterinary medicine, I enjoy spending time with my family, traveling, good coffee, cooking, and gardening. I am also a proud pet parent to three rescue dogs, three rescue cats, and two fish.
