Puppies & Kittens, Lafayette Veterinarians

Your Pet’s First Appointment

Ideally, puppies and kittens should have their first appointment with our vets around the age of 7 weeks.

During this initial visit, your pet will receive a complete physical examination to assess their overall health, look for signs of any congenital defects, and check for external parasites.

More About Physical Exams

We will administer deworming medications for both hookworms and roundworms, and will provide your pet with the first rounds of puppy and kitten vaccinations.

More About Vaccines & Prevention

Finally, for kittens, we will perform a blood test to check for feline leukemia and feline immunodeficiency virus.

Followup Appointments

Puppies and kittens should attend between three and four veterinary checkups between 6 and 16 weeks old. These checkups allow our vets to monitor your young pet's health and administer vaccines right on schedule.
